What did old consumers like on furniture? Wanggang talk about antique furniture part 5

Mr. Zou talk about old time's consumer demand. They want high quality with longer working time on the furniture.

For example there are 2 families in a village. We call them family A and family B and they can all afford to make good marriage bed. Their daughters will get married at the same time. As the custom of China the most important dowry is bed. They asked 2 carpenters each and start to make beds for them. It usually takes a few years time to finish a good marriage bed. And so the marriage bed is awarded another name ¡°a thousand workday bed¡±. Let's get back to the story. The 2 families will compete on whose quality is better not speed. Faster means lower quality. If family A find that the carpenters do faster than family B family A would be unhappy and advise the 2 workers to make more carefully and slowly. If still faster he would take the knife out from hand plane and ask them push the hand plane on the wood without the plane cutter just to show that their bed is well made.

Today we are difficult to see such carefully hand made artworks. The furniture shown at shops are almost all machine made with same face. They can be produced very quickly in bulk quantity especially with computer' help. You can't see any life inside just a piece of item for somewhat use. And such item is not unique. There may be thousands of exactly the same ones put in other families in the same time.

Wanggang doesn't like anything like these.
